Statement on the recognition and support of the Libyan National Transitional Council as the sole and legitimate representative of the authority in Libya

National Consortium of the Libyan Women
(Temporary)

As Libya strives towards freedom and emancipating itself from the chains of political tyranny, intellectual isolation, intentional sabotage of financial and human national resources, and;

As we, members of the Libyan Women National Consortium, composed of Libyan women and young people  living abroad, believe that national truthful efforts should be coordinated and unified;

We wish to extend our sincere condolences to the mothers, fathers and families of our martyrs who shed their blood on the Libyan soil thirsting for freedom and dignity. We are honoured as well,  to recognize and support the Libyan National Transitional Council as the sole legitimate representative of the Libyan authority under the leadership of His Honour Judge Mustafa Abdul Jalil.

We call upon the Arab states and countries all around the world, the United Nations, specialized agencies, councils, political, legal, economic and humanitarian entities, the League of Arab States, and Arab, regional and international civil society organizations, associations, bodies and institutions to recognize, support and fully cooperate with the Libyan National Transitional Council in order to bring the Youth rebellion to success.

We also call upon the Human Rights Council and the UN women Council as well as Arab and international women organizations and federations in addition to all human rights, women and children organizations, bodies and associations to fully condemn the coercive and inhuman practices inflicted by the system on the unarmed Libyan population.

We call upon UNICEF, WHO, FAO, UNDP, ILO, the Arab Labour Organization (ILO), UNESCO, the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development as well as all Arab, Islamic and international welfare organizations to respond promptly by intervening and offering emergency  assistance to the liberated regions in Libya.

We also call upon the Libyan National Transitional Council to establish the cornerstones of a modern,  and democratic  Libyan state that upholds human values, and promote citizenship.

We affirm herein our role in upholding human rights values, and sustaining the Council in establishing the rule of law, the separation of powers, combating corruption, guaranteeing civil justice, public freedom and especially the freedom of the media and the freedom of speech.

We stand against extremism, fanaticism, and the monopoly of power by individuals, and we condemn all aspects of dictatorship that lead to the 17th of February revolution.

We pride ourselves with the capacities of Libyan women, and with their achievements in terms of education and expertise in several areas and we call upon the council to include women in all levels of decision making process and exercise their rights in the political arena through their membership in the National Transitional Council, its affiliated committiees, and bodies, as well as in the drafting of the new Libyan Constitution.

The day of freedom has arrived, and God willing, victory shall soon prevail.
